An Example of a Protestant Church

Tom's Creek Freewill Baptist Church in Nippa, Kentucky

About this picture:

This church is an example of thousands of small Protestant churches established across America and the world. This particular church is Tom's Creek Freewill Baptist Church in Nippa, Kentucky.

Such churches often vary radically from more familiar high liturgy protestant churches such as the Anglican or Lutheran churches. High liturgy churches have changed little since the Reformation. Yet, newer interpretations of the New Testament and an insistence on "correct" doctrine has led to the continual splintering which dominates Protestantism today.

Currently, evangelical Christianity is experiencing explosive growth in the People's Republic of China. Numerous small Protestant "house" churches are being established all over mainland China. Because of their often dogmatic stance and independent nature, the current government of the People's Republic of China is has severely repressed the house church movement, often with severely harsh measures and long prison terms. For more information, see "The China Project" at Worldserve Ministries.
